Applying for an Indian Visa as an Italian or Swedish Citizen
Applying for an Indian Visa for Italian Citizens or Swedish citizens can be tricky, especially if you don’t have experience with the process. To help, below are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding applying for an Indian visa as either an Italian or Swedish citizen. If you have any questions that aren’t answered here, feel free to contact us and we will be glad to help you.
Understand where you need to apply for your visa
Sweden and Italy have different Indian visa application processes, so it’s important to know where you need to apply. In Sweden, Indian visas are handled by your closest Swedish embassy or consulate, which means you don’t need to travel all over Europe to collect all of your documents; instead, you can just go to one centralized location. For example, if you live in Stockholm, then you’ll need to go to the Stockholm embassy for your visa application. Italy also handles its own visa applications—meaning that although both India and Italy are part of Europe, Indians and Italians may need two separate visas when traveling from place to place inside Europe.
Which type of Indian visa do you need?
Most people who apply for a visa to India will be granted one of three different types: tourist, business or medical. If you are planning on staying in India longer than 180 days, you will likely need to apply for a business or medical visa—these visas do not allow you to work while in India. It’s important to select the appropriate type of visa because if your application is rejected and you enter on a tourist visa instead, your Indian visa may be canceled. Also, depending on which type of Indian visa you are approved for, certain requirements (such as proof of funds) might differ. It is best to learn about each type so that you can ensure that your application meets all necessary regulations before applying. Indian Visa for Swedish Citizens
How long does it take to get my India visa?
The time it takes to get your India visa is dependent on where you are getting your visa from. If you are applying at a consulate in Sweden, for example, you should be able to get your Indian visa within a week of submitting all of your documents. If you are applying via mail, however, it will take longer and vary based on how quickly they can verify everything they need to verify. One thing that most people don’t realize is that some countries offer faster Indian visas than others – and so if you are an Italian citizen who’s trying to decide which consulate/embassy to apply at in Italy or Sweden, it might be worth comparing how long each one can get things done; check out our table above to find out!
What should I bring with me when applying for my India visa?
Indian visa application forms can be intimidating. After all, there’s a lot of information to fill out and it’s easy to make mistakes. When you’re applying at a consulate in person, remember to bring your passport, a pen, and your completed application form. You’ll also need to have one passport-sized photo-ready (the size is specified on each form). The photo must be new and not older than six months. Finally, bring with you copies of your return flight ticket, proof of accommodations in India, and any other documents that will help convince Indian immigration officers that you are coming back from India after your visit.
Do I need to fill out the DS-160 form when I applied online?
If you did not use travel.state.gov to apply online, yes, you will need to fill out a DS-160 form before traveling to India. As with most countries, your DS-160 is valid for six months only; you must apply again if you do not plan on visiting India in that time period (this includes visiting any country other than India). Indian visa rules do change frequently and it is important that you stay up-to-date on all changes. In addition to a valid application for your Indian visa, certain countries require a sponsorship letter from an Indian embassy official or an approved tour operator.
Fees, what are they and how much do they cost?
The fees depend on which office you are applying in and how quickly you would like to get your visa. The Indian Embassy has several offices located in different countries, such as Sweden and Italy. You will have to go to one of these locations to submit your application. Some visa types are processed within a few weeks, but others can take more than a year. If time is of the essence, it may be wise to choose another destination when planning your trip abroad. Fees will also vary depending on which type of visa you would like to receive and other factors that must be considered while applying for a visa.
