Moving: how to pack effectively?
Yeah, you found a new home! But you know what moving means: arranging many things. This arrangement is often accompanied by stress. What do I have to think about? How can I arrange everything as quickly as possible? How can I best organize everything? All these questions run through your head. And then you see the living room is also full of all kinds of things that still need to be packed. How do I best pack those moving boxes? Which items do I put in which box? What’s the most efficient way to pack everything? This time we will answer the question: how do I pack my things best? Here are our packing tips for you so that you can start moving with a calm feeling!
To start packing all your belongings, you will need good quality moving boxes. You can find these in online webshops! Order them for a low price and have them at home!
Moving your stuff starts with sorting out all your junk. What goes and what doesn’t? When you move and start sorting your stuff, you only realize how much stuff (and therefore also junk) you have;) Are you going to move all this junk with you, or can things also go away? A move is an ideal opportunity to get rid of stuff. Start sorting things out in the attic (if you have one) and work your way down from there. Start with that bookcase in the attic and distance yourself from books that you have already read 10 times or books that you have received again through the media. Take a look at that wardrobe and donate your old clothes to a good cause. Items that you no longer use or deserve a better destination can be taken to the nearest thrift store or gifted.
Saying goodbye to things is not always easy, but it also brings benefits. A tidy house means a tidy mind. And think of the possibility of buying new stuff instead!
Pack per room/room
It is clear and practical to pack your things per room. This saves you a lot of work when unpacking. This means you have all the things right in place for each room. Make sure the least things you need are on the bottom, so pack them first. Examples of items that are best placed on the bottom are decorative items, extra duvets, extra cooking utensils, photo albums, and so on.
It is important to give more attention to fragile items, it is not convenient to ‘throw’ plates or vases into a box without protection. It is always an art to make this kind of property come across in one piece. There is enough packing material to win this game. In the Britwrap webshop, you can find protective packaging items such as sofa covers, rug storage bags, mattress moving bags, container desiccant, and cover foil. But did you know that you already have your own packing material?! You can easily use towels and socks to protect your crockery, figurines, and glassware. So all socks and towels are back at the new address!
Tip: by using towels and socks etc., as packing material, you also save space! Another handy
Tip: cover bottles with liquid substance so that you are not surprised that your entire moving box is full of olive oil.
Fill a moving box with stuff for the move
It should not be the case that during the move, you suddenly think: shit, where is my phone charger? Turns out you put it in the bottom of a moving box somewhere. This can be very frustrating, especially during a move. Therefore, it is highly recommended to make a separate box with items that you will still need in the days of your move. For example: important papers, chargers for telephones and laptops, toiletries, basic cooking utensils, cleaning equipment, extra clothing, and a towel. It’s nice to have your daily necessities at hand.
Label moving boxes
Once you’ve packed everything up, you need to keep an overview. This can be done in various ways. You can write on the box what exactly is in it, for example, with a marker. But you can also color the boxes and divide them according to space. This way, you have a different color for each room and ensure that all boxes end up in the right place.
Tip: Stick the same color stickers on the doors of the different rooms, and your family and friends will know exactly where to put the boxes! You can also use colors to indicate which items are the most precious or very fragile.
Do not overload a moving box. You are very disappointed when the box breaks and your things fall on the floor. However, a heavy-moving box is also more difficult and dangerous to lift and move. Take into account a maximum weight of about 8 kilos per standard moving box.
